Postmortem: Linear Streaming Outage - 9/28/2026 09:57 - 10:05 ET

On Monday, September 29, from approximately 9:57 to 10:05 a.m. ET, a high number of Interconnection Linear Streams experienced service interruptions.

The interruption was caused by a fiber disturbance in the Chicago area that affected the national network backbone. Service was restored, and all affected streams have remained stable since the incident.

Interconnection Service Recipients,

Interconnection Live Linear Streaming has remained stable since the interruptions experienced earlier this morning. The Orb Support Team is resolving this status notification.

A case has been opened with the national network backbone provider to investigate the cause of the outage and help prevent future interruptions.

An additional interruption affecting multiple streams was detected from 10:14-10:16 ET.

The Orb Group team has opened a trouble ticket with the network carrier for confirmation of the issue mitigation and reason for the outage. We will continue to monitor for further issues and update this Status Page notification with further updates.

Investigating

Interconnection Service Recipients,

From 09:57 - 10:05 ET, a linear streaming interruption resulted in a high number of national terrestrial & individual contribution streams being switched over to the National Feed. The incident has been resolved, and we are monitoring all streams for stability.

For PBS Platform Streaming, if a failover to the National feed took place, your site can now switch back to your local feed via PBS LLS Admin Console. Please notify any streaming providers that the local feed has been restored, if needed.

A root cause analysis is currently underway and will be shared in upcoming communications.

This incident affected: Interconnection Local Live Linear Streaming (Terrestrial) and Interconnection National Program Feeds (Terrestrial).
